Hubby & Me .... !

We were married April 25th, 1998 ...

Soon after, we planned to start a family.

After about a year of trying to conceive ...

It was apparent that there was a problem.

I had an HSG ... and It was discovered that I have a

Bicornate Uterus (aka Double Uterus).

July 30th ~ My first appointment with an Infertility Specialist.

I have a double uterus and had 2 blocked tubes. During a HSG test (hysterosalpingogram), the doctor was able to unblock one of the tubes.

Surgery (Laparoscopy & Hysteroscopy) will be scheduled for October. This will be done for exploratory reasons to get a better idea of what is going on. The doctor plans to attempt to unblock the tube and possibly restructure the double uterus.

An ultrasound was done, and it appears that my right uterus is slightly larger than my left uterus. A follicle (egg) was seen in the left uterus which means that the newly unblocked tube is functional.(Happy News!)

Blood tests were done and it was discovered that I am no longer immune to rubella. I had to be re-vaccinated and due to this, cannot get pregnant for 3 months.

My surgery was scheduled for the end of October.

October 25th ~ Surgery

Recovery was tough ... I was very sore for several days. But it was worth it!

My "Double Uterus" was actually one uterus with a septum that extended more than 3/4 the way down, separating my uterus into 2 halves.

The doctor was able to remove the septum resulting in one normal shaped uterus.

The fallopian tube was unfortunately damaged beyond repair.

A Hysteroscopy is planned for November to help the doctor determine if the surgery was completely successful and if further surgery will be necessary.

SUCCESS! My septum is a thing of the past. Where do we go from here???

January 2000

Happy New Year! It seems that Artificial Insemination is the next step.

Giving yourself injections ... who would have thought that would be my reality. Repronex & Clomid. I had 5 Follicles on each side (only the left is useful. Trying to stay positive.

Sorry to say ... it didn't work. Due to a side effect of the medication (cysts in the uterus) we have to skip a month and then try again.

March 2000

Cysts are gone and we're ready.

This time ... half the amount of Repronex ... still don't like needles. Still have 5 follicles ~ I guess I'm a great egg maker.

#2 failure but trying to remain positive. Cysts are back ... We'll try #3 with some medication changes in May.

June 2000

One cysts was still too large in May. We had to wait one more cycle.

Third time is the charm. Repronex is the same, no clomid this time and the addition of Crinone.

Third time is NOT the charm. Can't figure out what's up! Doc says my lonely tube may not be working right. Now we have to discuss the next next step ... We're considering IVF. It may be the only avenue available.

I V F it is. The amount of medication you have to take is overwhelming. If I wasn't a regular at the doctor's office before, I am now. And of course ... the cost.

In Vitro Fertilization Info ~ Click Here

After much discussion, we have decided to put back 3 fertilized eggs. Due to our situation, the eggs will be fertilized through a process called ICSI where the sperm is actually injected into the egg. Modern technology never ceases to amaze me.

A tiny pipette is used to inject a single sperm into the awaiting egg in a revolutionary new procedure Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection.

We'll have to wait until mid-September to find out if we were successful.
